Tribute to a Legendary Picker
This 2-CD set, for the first time, anthologizes both the Vanguard Records and Sugar Hill Records periods of Doc Watson's discography in one compilation. Covering the years 1962 to 2005, this compilation concisely captures what made Doc Watson such a unique musical legend. A humble, soft-spoken, blind man from Deep Gap, NC, Doc's professional career didn't even begin until he was almost forty years old. Whether he was covering a traditional song hundreds of years old or taking a turn on a brand new composition, Doc infused everything he touched with authenticity and ingenuity. Despite his worldwide reputation as a first-rate guitar player, Doc's honeyed, welcoming voice was equally distinctive. He was truly one of a kind- here was an icon of bluegrass and other musical genres who was as comfortable with a huge audience as he was conversing with his next door neighbor. If there ever was any Americana royalty, Doc Watson was as fit to wear a crown as any musician.
