The historic Old Mill of Guilford was founded in North Carolina on Beaver Creek (near Winston-Salem) in 1767 to grind grain for the early settlers of what is now Guilford County. Today, this fully-operational, water-powered grist mill continues to produce all-natural, stone-ground, whole grain foods, just as it has for nearly 250 years.

old-mill-of-guilford-1.jpgThe Mill produces all natural cornmeal, grits, and flour, along with a wide range of mixes including gingerbread, sweet potato muffin, and pancake mixes.  One of our favorites is the Old Mill of Guilford's All Natural Stone Ground Yellow Grits. Here's a recipe for one of our favorite ways to fix them:

Recipe:
1 cup Old Mill Grits
3 cups water
Salt, pepper, butter to taste
Bring water to boil, add salt. Add grits, stir constantly. Cook until thick - 10-15 minutes.
Serve with butter. For cheese grits, add grated cheddar cheese once grits are cooked.
