Dolly Parton Mural

Dolly Parton is an American icon who’s renowned for decades of unforgettable performances on stage, screen, and in studio. No matter the heights she’s reached, Dolly always remembers her roots. Her legendary career proves that every artist’s journey begins with the resources, training, and encouragement they receive at home.

In honor of Dolly’s birth month, Mast General Store will ask guests at each of its locations to RoundUP their purchases to the next dollar for community arts-based organizations from January 12 - 18. Support for these local groups enriches us, deepens our sense of a shared cultural identity, and, perhaps even, enables the next generation’s “Dolly” to make their way to the big time.

“Vibrant communities have vibrant people. Vibrant people are found in the arts,”
- Faye Cooper

Local arts play an important role in each Mast Store community. Mast Store’s owners, the Cooper family, have championed the arts since they reopened the Original Mast Store in 1980. According to them, an active arts scene indicates a thriving community.

“Vibrant communities have vibrant people. Vibrant people are found in the arts,” Faye Cooper, co-founder of the Mast Store, affirmed.

These vibrant people and organizations inspire us with their ideas and creations and unite our communities in stories told through a variety of styles and media. The Mast Store proudly partners with groups across its region that light up their hometown theaters, galleries, stages, and residents’ faces.

Dogwood ArtsDolly’s local Mast Store in Knoxville will RoundUP to benefit Dogwood Arts. In 2025, Dogwood Arts entered its seventh decade of celebrating the arts, culture, and natural beauty of East Tennessee. Appalachian TheatreThe Original Mast Store, Mast Store Annex, and Boone Mast Store will RoundUP in support of the Appalachian Theatre. The Appalachian Theatre, located on King Street in Downtown Boone, welcomes all from its community and beyond to film and performing arts experiences that engage, entertain, and educate. The beautifully restored Art Deco venue boasts state-of-the-art technical equipment that draws nationally acclaimed performers from an array of artistic disciplines to the High Country to enrich its residents and bolster the local economy. It also opened its doors to faculty and students from area schools as they made classroom plans and sought comfort and levity through movies in the aftermath of 2024’s Hurricane Helene. River Arts District ArtistsThe Asheville Mast Store will RoundUP to benefit the River Arts District Artists (RADA) Foundation. The River Arts District is a flourishing community of artists and creators within Asheville. This area was among the most heavily affected neighborhoods of Asheville. Its residents were displaced and many homes, galleries, and studios there were irreparably damaged. The RADA Foundation advances the art and livelihoods of professional artists within the district and provides its members with services that include shared working spaces, scholarship opportunities, and technical assistance programs for professionals and emerging artists. Support from RADA continues to help the Rivers Arts District rebuild and reopen for the more than 500 artists who have returned since Helene. Mast Store’s RoundUP 4 a Cause campaigns have been successful fundraisers for a variety of local nonprofit partners. Recent focuses include Hurricane Helene relief as well as children’s food security programs and conservation initiatives.

As funding sources for local, independent arts become more limited, the support artists receive from their neighbors becomes increasingly important. The Mast Store appreciates the pennies, nickels, and dimes our guests donate to make our communities healthier, safer, and more vibrant through the arts.
