ROANOKE, VA – Mast General Store and Merrell’s Food for Kids campaign enters its 17th year in the fight against childhood hunger. From October 12 – 25, Merrell will donate $15 to a children’s fund at a local food security agency for each pair of its footwear purchased at Mast Store or Mast Store Online.
Feeding Southwest Virginia will receive Food for Kids donations from Merrell footwear purchased at the Roanoke Mast General Store. This food bank, founded in 1981, serves 26 counties and nine cities in the state. In addition to operating a backpack meal program for students on weekends and holidays breaks, the agency also organizes a Kids’ Farmers Market that provides free produce and nutrition education to children in need.
Merrell’s $15 donation makes a tangible difference in a child’s life. Food security agencies use their leveraged buying power along with donations and volunteer hours to stretch $1 into $3, $4, or even more in food value.
According to No Kid Hungry, as many as 14 million American children live in food-insecure households where access to proper nutrition and sufficient meals is limited or unavailable. In parts of Mast Store’s four-state region, one in four children don’t know where they’ll receive their next meal.
Mast Store guests who purchase new Merrell boots or shoes during Food for Kids will take home reliable, high-quality footwear while pitching in to end child hunger in their community. All other Mast guests can also support the same cause by choosing to roundUP any transaction to the nearest whole dollar today through October 25.
The Mast Store and Merrell thank everyone who makes this year’s 17th Food for Kids campaign a success in an effort to make our communities healthier, happier places for all children!
