VALLE CRUCIS, NC – Mast General Store, a family- and employee-owned retailer, proudly announces its expansion with a forthcoming location in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The store’s anticipated opening is Spring 2027.
Mast Store recently finalized the purchase of a historic property at 222 Broad Street in Downtown Chattanooga’s Riverfront neighborhood. The company will revive and preserve this building to honor its rich past while creating a welcoming, vibrant space that continues the Mast Store’s commitment to community, quality, and service.
“We are thrilled to be a part of Chattanooga! It’s the perfect destination for our next Mast Store,” said Mast General Store President Lisa Cooper. “We’ve had our eye on this dynamic city for more than a decade, and we couldn’t be happier that the right space for us became available at the right time.”
In the tradition of Appalachian general stores, each of the Mast Store’s 11 locations incorporates elements of local history into its design and décor. Before renovations to its newly acquired Chattanooga property begin, Mast Store will research the role this building, formerly a trolley barn that in recent years was readapted to house Big River Grill, has played in the region’s commerce.
“We can't wait to share updates along the way, and we look forward to welcoming everyone in and around Chattanooga when the time comes,” said Cooper.
She continued by expressing appreciation to those who have played a critical role in selecting and acquiring the store site.
“I have to give Jeff and Mark credit for finding us the ideal spot in Downtown Chattanooga and working out the details,” Cooper said referring to Jeff Meadows, Mast Store Vice President of Branding and Development, and Mark Gould, Mast Store Chief Financial Officer, who had scouted potential locations and negotiated the property transaction.
“I’d also like to thank the many Chattanooga city officials who’ve been gracious and accommodating since the earliest stages of our search. We’re delighted to carry forward these relationships into a successful, prosperous future for ourselves, our new neighbors, and all the businesses and residents of Chattanooga,” continued Cooper.
The future Chattanooga Mast Store will be the company’s twelfth location and its second in Tennessee. Chattanooga will be Mast Store’s westernmost location in its four-state region of operations, which includes the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Virginia. Mast General Store first opened in 1883 in Valle Crucis, North Carolina, where the company is headquartered today, and it most recently expanded in 2020 with a location in Roanoke, Virginia.
