In 1974 when founder Mike Pfotenhauer began designing backpacks, he started a revolution in thinking about packs and how they work with the human body. “Designing a backpack is like creating a kinetic sculpture. It has to move and work with your body,” said Pfotenhauer.

Over the years, different technologies have been applied to backpacks to help them better distribute the load no matter what activity the wearer is involved in. Almost 90% of Osprey Packs come in multiple sizes to fit different torso lengths. Some also come with interchangeable belts and straps for an even more customized fit.

Osprey also makes women’s backpacks that take into account the different shape of a woman’s body. The fit is more anatomical for the neck, shoulder, and chest, while the hipbelt incorporates thoughtful angle changes and varying padding thicknesses for a better fit.
