traditional string-band with a contemporary spin

Leaving Eden is the Carolina Chocolate Drops' second full-length offering with Nonesuch Records. On this 15-song collection, recorded live in the studio with all the players in a single room, it allows one to experience the raw talent, spontaneity, and sheer exuberance of this multi-faceted band. Performing a wide range of traditional Black American musical styles with a modern twist and expertly playing a variety of acoustic instruments, this album is a mix of tunes allowing each member of the band to shine from Rhiannon Giddens infusing "No Man's Mama" (made famous by Ethel Waters) with her own brand of sassiness or Don Flemons pulling triple-duty on banjo, fife and vocals on the upbeat traditional "Run Mountain".
