2009 marks the Great Smoky Mountains National Park's 75th Anniversary. The park, which straddles Tennessee and North Carolina, has over 800 miles of maintained trails. It is a world renowned preserve of wildflower diversity with over 1,660 kinds of flowering plants. It is a biologically diverse area providing a sanctuary for a wide array of plant and animal life including some 1,500 bears.
