Changing the World One Card at a Time

Changing the World One Card at a Time
William Mangum is one of the most popular and respected artists in the country. Twenty-four years ago, a chance meeting with a homeless individual changed Bill’s life forever and provided the genesis for the Honor Card Program.
Now in its 24th year, Bill had utilized his artistic talent to create contemplative paintings that share a subtle message about homelessness. The Honor Card Program now serves eleven cities across North Carolina and has raised over three million dollars for agencies meeting the needs of the homeless.
The 2011 Honor Card “Change the World” was motivated by a message from Andy Stanley. “Do for one what you could do for everyone!” A smile, a handshake, pausing a moment to say hello to a meal; these are the stepping stones that reflect love to those that are not only homeless but hopeless. This year’s inspiring Honor Card is a true story about Bonnie Harris who came through the depths of despair and homelessness only to “Change the World” in her own unique way. Read her amazing story at TheHonorCard.org.
The Honor Cards are available in the Mast Store Annex and Rivercross Market in Valle Crucis as well as the Mast General Store in Boone. 100% of the proceeds from the Honor Cards purchased in the High Country will be donated to the Hospitality House.
Hospitality House, a non-profit organization, serves seven counties in northwestern North Carolina, helping those in crisis, poverty, and homeless situations to rebuild their lives. The organization provides Emergency Shelter Services and Transitional Family Housing, operates the Bread of Life Community Kitchen, distributes the Second Harvest Food Box Program, maintains the Rock Haven Independent Living Facility, serves as a Red Cross Disaster Relief Center and administers WeCAN – a crisis intervention and homeless prevention program. Won’t you join us in supporting their worthy mission during this holiday season by purchasing an Honor Card?
