Valle Crucis musician, Bob Sullivan, brings his popular-style music to the Annex on Saturday, February 4th from 11 a.m. until the sun goes down.  From Willie Nelson to Bob Dylan, Bob Sullivan puts his own personal touch on your favorite songs.

Leftover Bluegrass will join us for a toe tappin’ good time at the Original Store Saturday, January 7th and Sunday January 8th from noon until 2 p.m. Enjoy live music around the warm pot-bellied stove.

William Mangum is one of the most popular and respected artists in the country. Twenty-four years ago, a chance meeting with a homeless individual changed Bill’s life forever and provided the genesis for the Honor Card Program.  Now in its 24^th year, Bill had utilized his artistic talent to create contemplative paintings that share a subtle message about homelessness.

The earliest settlers of the Appalachian Mountains would have never imagined a house in their beloved hilly landscape like the model pictured below. But it’s likely that the mountaineers of yesteryear would be proud of the home’s ingenuity and wise use of resources. The hardworking mountain pioneers and an ingenious group of current High Country dwellers have several very important things in common: commitment to prudent construction by making the best use of available materials, gently drawing on the free gifts of nature in order to meet the needs of everyday life, and the adoption of a self-sufficient lifestyle with low impact on the resources around them.

In anticipation of the festive season, folks have made it an annual tradition to visit the High Country in late November to kick off the holidays. Please join us for a High Country Christmas this year! Here a few ways to sample holiday cheer...

With many of our neighbors being unemployed or underemployed and winter on the horizon, there’s even more need to share the warmth and help others to fend off the cold. The Mast General Store is hosting its seventh annual Share the Warmth coat, sweater and blanket collection campaign from now until November 30th.

Annex Sales Associate in Valle Crucis, Megan LeJarre, memorialized the tenth anniversary of September 11^th in a very special way. Megan is a firefighter with the Beech Mountain Volunteer Fire Department. She joined fellow firefighters in Mooresville, NC for a Memorial Stair Climb at Lake Norman High School in honor of her fallen comrades who lost their lives on 9/11.

We’re excited that Elizabeth Wiegand will return to the Original Store in Valle Crucis on Saturday, October 8th to discuss and autograph her cookbook The New Blue Ridge Cookbook, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. America’s legendary Blue Ridge Mountain region is known for its rich history and culture and, not least, its traditional cuisine. But much of what’s cooking here is new, including a thriving Farm to Table movement and increasingly established Slow Food communities.
