When are you open?
*Our downtown stores (Boone, Waynesville, and Hendersonville) and the Annex in Valle Crucis are open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday 12 noon until 6 p.m.
*The Downtown Asheville Store is open 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturdays, and 12 noon until 6 p.m. on Sundays.
*The Downtown Greenville Store is open 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturdays, and 12 noon until 6 p.m. on Sundays.
*The Downtown Knoxville Store is open 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays, and 12 noon until 6 p.m. on Sundays.
*The Original Mast Store in Valle Crucis is open 7 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 noon until 6 p.m. on Sunday.
*The Downtown Columbia Store is open 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 12 noon until 6 p.m. on Sunday.
*The winter hours for each location may vary slightly and usually run from mid January through Easter. Back to top.

Lots of folks ask this question! If you can send us an email describing the product, which store you saw it in, and maybe even tell us where you saw it, we'll try to track it down for you. I have an item that I need to return; how can I do that?
You can return an item to us for exchange or refund within 30 days of purchase with a receipt. Carefully package the item and include a copy of your receipt and a note with an explanation of why you are returning it (and what you'd like us to do - exchange, refund, etc.). Don't forget to include your return address and your day time telephone number, just in case we have questions. Send your return to:

If you are returning a gift and do not have a receipt, the item can be exchanged or you could request a store credit for the amount that the item is currently priced in the store. Back to top.
Can I purchase a gift certificate to give as a gift?
Yes, it's just like giving someone the whole store - so to speak. All you need to do is call Customer Service (866-FOR-MAST) with a credit card number and information for the lucky recipient (name, address, phone number). We can mail it either to you or to him or her. If you wish to purchase a gift certificate using a check, please indicated the amount of the certificate, send the recipient's name, address, and phone number, and direction on who to send it to. You may also wish to include your daytime telephone number, just in case we have questions. Your check should be made payable to Mast General Store and include $3.85 for shipping. I loved your rocking chairs, can I have one sent to my home?
We have quite a collection of rocking chairs and accessories ranging from Amish to Kennedy. Because there may be questions that we cannot anticipate, you may want to call Customer Service at 866-367-6278.
We do accept phone orders for rocking chairs - the folks in Customer Service will be happy to explain the procedure for getting them from us to you. Because of their size, rockers and porch swings cannot be shipped via UPS; they must be delivered by a "common carrier," like Estes, Yellow, or Fredrickson. Back to top.
I've visited your store in Waynesville, are all of your stores the same?
Well, yes and no. We try to have several of the same items and product lines at each of our stores, but each location has its own personality.
Our "youngest" store is the Knoxville location, which was constructed around 1898. Its furnishings span the decades ranging from the early 1900s to today, which means that even though the same items are there as in other stores, they will be displayed a bit differently. The same is true of our stores in Greenville (circa late 1800s), Asheville (circa 1945), Waynesville (circa 1935), Hendersonville (1905), and Boone (1913).
The Original Store (1883) is still much the same as when it was built. It and the Annex in Valle Crucis (1909) have just about every square inch of floor and shelf space merchandised in some way. In these two stores, shopping is definitely an adventure. Back to top.
Does the Mast Family still own the Mast Store?
Yes and no. First, the no part. The Mast General Store became an employee-owned business (ESOP) in 1996, so each employee who meets certain criteria owns a little bit of the store, which in a way kinda makes us a part of the Mast family. Now, for the yes part. Allen Mast, W. W. Mast's great-grandson, is one of the managers at the Original Store in Valle Crucis. He is a part of the ESOP program, and now his sister, Jeanne, is working for Mast Store, too. So, yes, it is, in a manner of speaking, still owned by the Mast Family. Back to top.
Do you still carry coffins and caskets?
The Mast Store in Valle Crucis was once touted as "the store that had everthing." One of Mr. Mast's original ads, which appeared in the 1923 edition of The Rhododendron, the Appalachian State University yearbook, proclaimed "Goods for the living, Coffins and caskets for the dead." We now have one example of a coffin on display in the upstairs part of the Original Store in Valle Crucis. We regret that we don't offer coffins and caskets any longer, but we thought those goods might ought to be left to "specialists." Back to top.

A walk through the Mast Store's Mercantile Department certainly can conjure up lots of memories, and we get questions like this often.
