Sleuthing Scent Hounds visit Knoxville on September 10th

Union County Deputy Candy Stooksbury and the Knoxville Police Department’s “Bloodhound Unit” visit the Knoxville Mast General Store on Saturday, September 10th from noon until 2 p.m. This volunteer-run Search and Rescue unit helps find missing civilians like lost hikers, children, and Alzheimer’s patients. Search and Rescue Bloodhounds are used to track people who want to be found as opposed to police dogs (like German Shepherds) who are used to find criminals intentionally hiding from authorities.

The Bloodhound’s keen sense of smell coupled with their extraordinary ability to sniff out missing people make them invaluable team members for the KPD. Deputy Stooksbury says that “[Bloodhounds] can distinguish the scent of one person out of a crowd and focus on that one person – your scent is like a fingerprint to them. They can even tell twins apart!” Meet Deputy Stooksbury and her handsome sleuthing scent hounds for what’s sure to be a fun and informative afternoon.
